The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) awarded the Denton County Transportation Authority (DCTA) the GFOA Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the agency’s FY2021 budget document. This is the agency’s 15th consecutive year receiving this award. Additionally, DCTA received a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the FY2020 Annual Comprehensive Financial Report for its 11th consecutive year.
“I’m proud of our team’s dedication to transparency and financial stewardship,” Chief Financial Officer/Vice President of Finance Marisa Perry said. “I’m grateful to work with the DCTA finance staff, both past and present, who continually demonstrate commitment to accuracy and quality.”
The GFOA established the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting Program in 1945 to encourage and assist state and local governments to go beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles to prepare annual comprehensive financial reports that evidence the spirit of transparency and full disclosure to ensure that users of these financial statements have the information they need to independently assess the financial health of the participating government.
GFOA established the Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program (Budget Awards Program) in 1984 to encourage and assist state and local governments to prepare budget documents of the very highest quality that reflect both the guidelines established by the National Advisory Council on State and Local Budgeting and the GFOA's best practices on budgeting and then to recognize individual governments that succeed in achieving that goal.
To earn recognition, budget documents must meet program criteria and excel as a policy document, financial plan, operations guide, and communication tool.
“Receiving this award represents a significant achievement for DCTA as it reflects our commitment to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting,” DCTA Senior Budget Manager Amanda Riddle said. “At DCTA, we work diligently to ensure our budget meets the four pillars of the GFOA budget standards.”
